We find it cynical - and
We find it cynical - and degrading to the memory of our beloved Jane - to see how GPP has used the "Justice for Jane" campaign to de-focus their citizen's attention away from issues which effect those still among the living in our community.
We are referring to Bashara's ongoing operation in a licensed tavern of an S&M sex dungeon ( this - in a city which forbids DANCING in their taverns), his activities involving the 'Mobile Dungeon' and (along with his employee / cohorts); crimes against his tenants. Bashara's deviant behavior spans many years prior to the death of Jane, and it is our opinion he had a lot of help.
If we drink the Kool-Aid GPP PD is serving, only then is it possible to believe that: Bashara's crimes were never reported, no complaints ever emerged while Bashara operated his S&M Dungeon in the basement of a local tavern (for up to four years according to some reports). Bashara drove around GPP for years in his 'Dungeon-Mobile' and no one in law enforcement was the wiser. Take another gulp of Kool-Aid, and they assert that all the patrons of Bashara's dungeon were "consenting" "adults" and thus we should go back to sleep.
Drink another large swallow of this brew, and you will soon believe that NO ONE
( including Jane) had any idea of the deviant life style Bashara led for many years. Everyone involved with Bashara never, ever saw beyond his image of 'Pillar of the Community' and never thought to alert law enforcement or warn Jane.
Jane? We are to believe that she "may" have had some inkling toward the end, but she had no idea of the true character of her husband of 20+ years. Have another gulp of the Kool-Aid. Jane, although an MBA and experienced business manager, had no knowledge of Bashara's real estate manipulations. She trustingly signed dozens of mortgage documents, and other real estate paperwork, without comprehending them.
We assert, that plenty of people knew about Bashara and his employee / cohorts criminal activities - including Jane - and local law enforcement. Did Bashara's deviant criminal behavior go unchecked because no one in GPP city administration wanted such crimes aired in the media?
Others suspect his crimes went unpunished because his dungeon served the prurient tastes of people influential in the community and thus operated without fear of prosecution. In order to feel truly safe in our community, these questions ought to be
thoroughly looked into.
We further assert that GPP police routinely attacks the credibility of any one who would report such sort of crimes -- such as a tenant of one their 'Pillars of the Community' or a patron of the Hard Luck Lounge, or a victim of a sexual assault in their community. "Bob Bashara, a Pillar of our Community, could never do such a thing, You must be mistaken, sir. Therefore, we will find a way to discredit your testimony". Or "the crime you are reporting ma'am would bring unwanted publicity to our community. Furthermore, such crimes don't happen here in GPP, so your testimony is not accepted."
WHY? In short: the crime didn't happen if GPP refuses to report it as one...
Safe City? Maybe on paper it is...
Bashara knew this - took full advantage of this situation, and did so for many years. Only the death of Jane finally aroused suspicion of Bashara's lifestyle and criminal activities among law enforcement officials.
Either GPP PD is utterly incompetent in enforcing the law - or - the City of Grosse Pointe Park has a lot of explaining to do. The citizens of our city pay for competent and credible law officers. Certainly it is expected that our law enforcement officials protect all its citizens and enforce the law equally regardless of the social status of the accused or the accuser. That is a justice we deserve as tax payers and as citizens.
Justice for Jane? How about Justice for the rest of Bashara's victims? How about justice for victims of other crimes that were ignored because GPP refused to accept the reality that such crimes do, in fact, occur in GPP - and - regardless of the negative publicity which may result, regardless of social status - such crimes should and must be prosecuted. Maybe then the citizens of our city can sleep at night without a large glass of Kool-Aid.

I think this campaign is just wonderful. I saw a sign on someone's lawn on Moross! Where can I get one? And is there anything I can do to help?

GROSSE POINTE, Mich. (WWJ) – Friends and supporters of Jane Bashara are mounting what they’re calling the “Justice For Jane (Bashara) campaign”.
Organizers say the purpose is to visibly show the Grosse Pointe community’s desire to bring to justice whoever murdered one of its most respected members. They’ve begun selling yard signs, car magnets, wristbands, and purple tree ribbons — with the goal to have as many of them displayed as possible before what would have been Jane Bashara’s 57th birthday — on June 22nd.

After 3 weeks of planning, today is the kick-off of the Justice for Jane campaign!
Below is the press release that was sent today to the major media outlets in Detroit and the Grosse Pointes.
PRESS RELEASE
Saturday June 9, 2012
Re: Justice for Jane (Bashara) campaign
Saturday, June 9 is the kick-off of the Justice for Jane campaign in the Grosse Pointe community. This campaign is the display of items with the words “Justice for Jane” including yard signs, ribbon magnets for cars, wristbands, and purple tree ribbons. This first distribution of items is very limited, with future distributions planned as new requests are received.
The goal is to have as many of them on view as possible before June 22, which would have been her 57th birthday. We believe Jane would be proud and deeply gratified that her community joined together to avenge the terrible wrong of her senseless death.
The purpose of the campaign is to show in a visible way the Grosse Pointe community's desire to bring to justice whoever murdered one of its most respected members. It affirms a trust in law enforcements' efforts on her case and stands behind them.
Sale of campaign items serves a dual purpose in providing funds for a commemorative vigil for Jane which will be held later this summer, date to be determined. All proceeds in excess of expenses will be donated to one of Jane’s favorite charities.
This first wave of signs and tree ribbons is very limited as they were sold with no media exposure or advertising --- simply from those who view Justice4Jane.forumotion.com. We fully expect many more requests when people see them and hear about the campaign. They will be distributed every week for as long as being ordered. The wristbands and car magnets are due in by June 15. To date, the count ordered is: yards signs, 46; wristbands, 52; ribbon car magnets, 23; tree ribbons, 14.
Costs of these items are: yard signs $15; wristbands, tree ribbons, and ribbon magnets, $5 each. To buy or make donations, email Justice4Jane@yahoo.com, re: orders/donations. Purchasers will be notified of the pickup date and location in Grosse Pointe.
The organizers wish to remain in the background (not take the spotlight) and let the campaign speak for itself. We truthfully would like little media coverage, but realize that is not feasible with such a high profile case. For any questions, please email justice4jane@yahoo.com with the reporter’s name and contact information. A volunteer will email the reporter with the requested information. Thank you for your consideration.
Since this forum was started less than a month ago (May 13), we are pleased with this progress. Onward and upward!
